Blessing for IBC Breakfast November 21, 2015

November is traditionally a month for being thankful.

Veterans Day is a day we have set aside for honoring all those who have served in our armed forces, whether in direct combat or in support roles.

Thanksgiving Day is for giving thanks for the abundance of the harvest or whatever we happen to be blessed with.

And in the recent terror attacks in Beirut and Paris, we can be thankful that this did not happen in our neighborhoods.

November is just more than parades, turkey and football – it is a time to give thanks

In Ephesians 5:20 (KJV) we are reminded: “Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;”

Today, as we gather at this Interboro Breakfast Club, we give thanks for all things.

Let us pray.

Father in heaven, we give you thanks for another day upon this earth.

We thank you for those classmates like Fred Leopold, Don Rees and others who have bravely paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

We thank you for all Interboro classmates, teachers and administrators who have served our country, as well as all family members who have done so.

We thank you for the cornucopia of all that you have provided us, both in physical and spiritual nourishment.

Father, we thank you for all who helped start IBC, including Jim Shannon, who we lost to cancer nearly a year ago.

Please bless and comfort those who lost loved ones in Beirut and Paris and those who have been injured. We also thank you for our safety.

Please bless the food we are about to have as well as those who prepare and serve it.

We thank you for another opportunity to break bread together and share our lives with and love for each other.

We give thanks in the name of your Son and our Lord, Jesus.

Amen
